Thotapalli project oustees to continue agitation

Sequel to failure of talks held with the district administration

VIZIANAGARAM: The talks between Joint Collector B. Ramaiah and representatives of Thotapalli project affected families at RDO’s Office in Parvathipuram on Monday ended in a stalemate. Kolaka Lakshmana Murty, CPI (M) MLA from Naguru (ST) constituency, Reddy Srirama Murty, CPI (M) divisional secretary, Bantu Dasu, vice-president of State Project Nirvasithula Porata Committee and Gottapu Venkata Naidu,

TDP district general secretary represented the families displaced by Thotapalli project.

At the talks, even after the Joint Collector assured them that their demands would be met in the next three weeks, they made it clear that the oustees who forced contractors to stop work on Friday last would continue the blockade.

Ultimatum

The MLA said that the district administration had failed to win confidence of the oustees who had served an ultimatum with 20 demands on February 1 that they would intensify stir from May 1.

Their demands include allotment of land to families displaced from Nandivanivalasa, Basangi and Sunki villages, Relief and Rehabilitation package for those who crossed 18 years of age, widows and senior citizens, basic amenities, including burial ground, at rehabilitation colonies etc.

Earlier, the oustees took out a rally from municipal office to the RDO’s Office where they staged a dharna from 10 a.m. to 2.30 p.m.
