KASARAGOD: The police on Monday arrested four persons in connection with the murder of BMS district vice-president P. Suhas during the recent clashes in Kasaragod. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case identified the arrested persons as Rahim, 23; Shihab, 23; and Abdul Rahman alias Amu, 21, residents of Market Kunnu in the town; and Shafir (24), a resident of Arial. The arrested are workers of the National Development Front (NDF), said the police. They were employed as headload workers and had membership in trade unions also apart from the NDF. The police said the killing of Suhas was pre-planned and that NDF leader B.M. Rafeeq, a resident of Anangoor, had played a key role in the conspiracy. Mr. Rafeeq reportedly wanted to avenge an attack on him allegedly by BMS workers a few days ago. The police said a four-member gang led by Mr. Rafeeq had executed the murder. All of them are absconding. The four arrested had also played a key role in the murder, the police said. Meanwhile, the police conducted a search at Rafeeq residence and seized his passport. With this, the police have so far arrested 14 persons who are accused in four murders cases.
