Nirmithi Kendra staff seek wage hike

Special Correspondent

KANNUR: The Nirmithi Kendra Employees Organisation has urged the authorities to offer training to the technical staff in district-level centres.

Speaking at a press meet here on Monday, its State president M.V. Jayarajan and secretary R.C. Jayarajan also demanded revision of their wages and service benefits. They added that the fourth State conference of the organisation would be held at Palakkad from May 9 to 11.

They demanded that the recommendations, submitted by the Housing Commissioner in a report on the extension of the activities of the kendras and their co-ordination, be implemented immediately.

Pointing out the kendras’ potential to develop, they said that the centres could function better by ensuring quality and shunning contractors. As the kendras were now functioning under the district Collectors they could not achieve their desired objectives, the office-bearers said. They underlined the importance of the kendras being brought under the direct supervision of the government.

They said that the Kerala State Nirmithi Kendra had been constituted for providing guidelines to the district Nirmithi Kendras, popularise low cost construction techniques and modernisation of these techniques.
