6.22 lakh metric tonnes so far Farmers’ additional income 251 crore CHANDIGARH: Sirsa district of Haryana has witnessed a record arrival of over 6.22 lakh metric tonnes of wheat so far in its grain markets during the current rabi season. Stating this here on Monday, an official spokesman said Sirsa had become the No.1 district in the State with this much wheat arriving in its mandis. A bumper harvest of wheat and increase in the minimum support price (MSP) announced by the Centre had enabled the farmers to earn an additional income of about Rs.251 crore this season which comprised Rs.93.50 crore due to the increase in MSP and Rs.150 crore due to the bumper crop. The spokesman said Sirsa had surpassed all other districts in wheat arrivals in its mandis for the second year in a row. MSP increasedOver 4.66 metric tonnes of wheat had arrived in the district during the corresponding period last year. The MSP last year was Rs.750 per quintal and a bonus of Rs.100 per quintal was also given by the State Government. The spokesman said that an area of 2.70 lakh hectares was covered under wheat cultivation this rabi season. -- PTI
