On a bicycle, Sethupathi creates awareness about Freedom struggle
All ears: M. Sethupathi – SALEM: M. Sethupathi, a Plus-Two student, is on a mission. After completing his examinations, he has taken up a cycle yatra to inculcate the spirit of patriotism among people. Sethupathi (17), a native of Manakkadu in Hasthampatti, began the yatra from Salem Collectorate on Monday. Sethupathi has covered Vincent, Komarasamipatti, Hasthampatti, Sarada College Road, Fairlands, Five Roads and Salem Railway Junction on the first day of the yatra on his bicycle decorated with Tricolour and placards. On the way he stops wherever he sees a group of people and narrates the inspiring saga of the freedom movement and the invaluable sacrifices of leaders. “Many people, particularly the youth, do not know what Freedom struggle was or who were in the forefront of the struggle. I hope my initiative will help them know about the Freedom movement,” he says. The 150th anniversary celebrations of the first freedom struggle held in New Delhi gave me the inspiration, he adds. Sethupathi, who is also a Kolkal (performing with stilts) artiste, stresses the importance of preserving folk arts during his yatra. He plans to cover more parts in the city and the suburbs on May 6 and 7.
