Cites arrest of three RSS workers on murder charge Seeks disciplinary action against police officers KANNUR: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has alleged that the arrest of “three innocent RSS workers” in connection with the murder of Communist Party of India (Marxist) worker K.P. Jijesh is a violation of the agreement made at the all-party peace meeting convened by Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan. Valsan Thillankery, a senior RSS functionary in the district, said at a press conference here on Monday that the Chief Minister’s assurance at the peace meeting that the police would act impartially and honestly had been violated. All those now included in the list of accused in the murder case had been found to have no connection with the incident in earlier investigations into the murder, he said. Mr. Thillankery alleged that police officers who had conducted impartial inquiries into the murder had been replaced by Crime Branch officers who were pliable to the CPI(M) for arresting RSS workers who had no connection with the incident. He alleged that the Crime Branch Superintendent of Police who was in charge of the inquiry had been subjected to the High Court’s strictures for his “capitulation under pressure from the CPI(M)” in the incident of demolition of a shop on the Logan’s Road at Thalassery, he said adding that this officer had been divested of his charge of investigation into the incident. He also alleged that the arrest followed the visit of Crime Branch Inspector General to the district to put pressure on the investigation team. The RSS leader called for the Chief Minister’s intervention to ensure an impartial inquiry into the murder by police officers with proven impartiality and probity. Disciplinary action should be taken against police officers who had taken innocent people into illegal custody for days and subjected them to torture.
