Speaker reserves verdict on disqualification of TRS rebels
HYDERABAD: The hearing on the petition to disqualify nine rebel Telangana Rashtra Samiti MLAs for fielding their own candidate as opposed to the party’s official nominee in the Legislative Council elections has been completed.
The Telangana Rashtra Samiti wanted the MLAs to be disqualified for violating the provisions under the tenth schedule of the Constitution and 22 hearings had been conducted so far.
Speaker K.R. Suresh Reddy who heard the argument of both sides in his chambers in the Legislative Assembly on Monday reserved his judgment.
Violation admitted
Senior advocate K. Ramakrishna Reddy who presented his argument on behalf of the TRS told reporters later that the rebel MLAs admitted the violation of the provisions in claiming that they had fielded their own nominee.
It was left to the Speaker to announce his verdict in the incident and the TRS was prepared to move a higher court if it was not satisfied with the outcome, he added.
MLA Kasipeta Lingaiah who attended the hearing on behalf of the rebels said the threat of the advocate to approach a higher court reflected that there was no truth in their allegations and no strength in the case against them.
The Speaker, however, refused an appointment to reporters when they went to seek his views on the issue.
