Naval ships for Myanmar

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: India will send two naval ships to Myanmar containing relief material for cyclone victims, the Ministry of External Affairs said.

The decision is in keeping with India’s policy of reaching out to its neighbours during distress. The ships will carry tents, blankets, food and medicines. The cyclone, which hit Myanmar last week, killed hundreds and flattened thousands of homes and infrastructure.

President’s message

The President, the Prime Minister and the External Affairs Minister had sent messages commiserating with the hardship being faced by the people of Myanmar.

They also conveyed India’s readiness to provide immediate relief.
