Varun prevails over Hassan

BANGALORE: Varun Sathyanarayan prevailed over Hassan Ali Palijiwala 8-7(6) in the opening round of the boys’ under-16 singles event in the KSLTA-AITA Talent Series junior tennis championship which got underway here on Monday. In another closely contested encounter, Supreet Dev defeated Nihal Agha 8-7(5).

In the girls’ under-16 singles, Nupur Roy Chowdhry defeated Sanjana 8-7(5) in a first round tie. Other fancied players, however posted easy wins in both the under-12 and under-16 boys and girls singles.

Girls: U-16 singles: Shreya Madhavan bt S. Shruthi 8-0; Swathi Kumar bt Manisha 8-1; Devika Kumar bt Rajani Nupur bt Kavya 8-3; Sneha bt Pooja 8-0; Pooja Patil bt Abhipsha 8-3; Nupur Roy Chowdhry bt Sanjana 8-7(5).
