Saravanan scalps five

Madurai: Saravanan scalped five for 12 as Freak Amigos Cricket Club registered a 58-run victory over SBOA Cricket Club, for which Mari’s effort of six for 24 went in vain, in the Canara Bank-Madurai DCA first division ‘A’ Zone cricket league here on Sunday.

The scores:

First division: ‘A’ Zone: Freak Amigos CC 146 in 43.1 overs (Murugan 40, Mari six for 24) bt SBOA CC 88 in 27.4 overs (Saravanan five for 12); Spark CC 161 in 34 overs (Velmurugan 54) bt TVS Srichakra 77 in 27.4 overs.

‘B’ Zone: Oxford CC (Uslampatti) 173 in 47.3 overs (Kumar four for 26) lost to Eleven Bullets CC 174 for seven in 33.4 overs (Prabakaran 55, Sathya 50, Sugapathy four for 34, including a hat-trick).

Second division: TVS Aparajatha 164 in 30 overs (Renganathan 55) lost to Thirunagar Rainbow CC 165 for six in 24.3 overs (Hari 54, Balaji 40); Agni CC 223 in 30 overs (Ganesan 40, Yugin four for 32) bt Stalwarts CC 70 in 18 overs.

Third division: TVS inter-connect 189 in 30 overs (Velu four for 22) lost to Sun CC 190 for seven in 23 overs (Senthil Kumar 47); Jai Hind CC 163 for nine in 30 overs (Saravanan 51) lost to Thirunagar CC 164 for four in 24 overs (Alagar 40).

Prasanth sizzles

At Nagercoil, a half-century by Prasanth helped V-90 Cricket Club carve out a five-wicket victory over Kumari Cricket Club in the last match of the Canara Bank-Kanyakumari District Cricket Association’s first division league on Sunday.

V-90 Club could finish only seventh in the eight-team league with eight points and Kumari Club finished last with no point.

Young Cricket Club, which had already finished its fixtures, emerged champion with an all win-record (28 points).

Final standings:

‘A’ division: 1. Young CC (28 points); 2. Packer CC (20); 3. Sunny CC (16); 4. Packer Colts (16); 5. Sunny Colts CC (12); Vantage CC (12); 7. V-90 CC (8); 8. Kumari CC (0).

The scores:

First division: Kumari CC 130 in 25.1 overs lost to V-90 CC 134 for five in 21.2 overs (M.G. Prasanth 57).

Second division: Commando CC 188 for nine in 30 overs (M. Sathish 51) bt Sun Shine CC 138 in 29.2 overs; Eagles CC 197 for four in 25 overs (Faizil 63, Taifique 43) bt Cosmos CC 149 in 22.4 overs.

Tuticorin triumphs

At Tuticorin, Tuticorin Port Trust won the men’s title, while St. Mary’s College (Tuticorin) won the women’s title in the second State-level invitation open volleyball tournament at Saveriyapuram on Sunday.

The results:

Men: Final: Tuticorin Port Trust bt SR Traders VBC (Saveriyapuram) 25-16, 22-25, 25-20; Third place: PSA SICAL VBC bt Thermal RC 14-25, 25-15, 25-17.

Semifinals: Tuticorin Port Trust bt PSA SICAL VBC 25-17, 25-11; SR Traders VBC bt Thermal RC 25-20, 25-17.

Women: Final: St. Mary’s College (Tuticorin) bt SAS VBC (Nagercoil) 25-23, 25-16; Third place: Holy Cross HSS bt Ela Nila VBC (Thappathi) 21-25, 25-20, 25-22.

Semifinals: SAS VBC bt Holy Cross HSS 25-17, 25-18; St. Mary’s College bt Ela Nila VBC 25-21, 25-15.

Sun SC posts win

At Dindigul, Sun Sports Club posted a 5-1 victory over Solar Football Club (Nilakottai) in the Dindigul DFA Nursery (under-13) league for the DPM Trophy on Monday.

The results:

Sun SC 5 (Prasanth 3, Mujubur Rahmant, Selvakumar) bt Solar FC (Nilakottai) 1 (Senna Krishnan); Johnpaul FC 2 (Selvamanikandan 2) bt Annai Sport 1 (Navin Antony).

Zarook slams century

Zarook slammed a century as Pondicherry Sara Sports defeated Neyveli Sports School by 150 runs and booked a place in the pre-quarterfinals of the fourth State-level cricket tournament in Cuddalore on Monday.

The scores:

Pondicherry Sara Sports 236 for six in 25 overs (Zarook 112) bt Neyveli Sports School 86 in 17.2 overs.

Cosmopolitan 163 for four in 25 overs (Rajkumar 40) bt ACC 159 for six in 25 overs (Gopu 79).
