Film industry to raise funds for the ailing actor

BHUBANESWAR: In a show of solidarity, the Oriya film fraternity has come forward to raise funds for the treatment of veteran film and theatre actor and director Hara Patnaik, who is suffering from blood cancer.

Addressing the media here on senior members of the Orissa Cine Artistes’ Association – popular and veteran actors Debu Bose, Bijay Mohanty and Siddhant Mohapatra – revealed that Mr.Patnaik is being treated at the Christian Medical College in Vellore. He would be put under chemotherapy followed by bone marrow transplantation surgery that would require about Rs.50 lakh.

The association along with the Cuttack-based YES event management group would host a series of ‘Ollywood Nights’ across various cities and towns in the State to raise funds for the ailing actor, they revealed.

The film industry has further decided to appeal to the Chief Minister for his Relief Fund and popular actor Mihir Das has been entrusted with the responsibility of taking up the matter with the Chief Minister. Corporate bodies would also be approached for financial support, they added.

The entire film fraternity including filmmakers, technicians and artistes has joined hands to stand by Mr. Patnaik and his family in this hour of crisis, stated superstar Siddhant Mohapatra.

Individuals and institutions desirous of donating funds for medical aid of Mr. Patnaik can contact his brother Bishnupad Patnaik on his cell number 94370 24966, the association members appealed.
