RSP sets new production records

Rourkela: Rourkela Steel Plant’s (RSP) performance during April 2008 was the best as compared to any April since inception of the plant in the production of sinter, hot metal, crude steel and saleable steel.

Sinter production of 2,77,281 tonnes registered a growth of over 22 per cent over April 2007, hot metal output was 1,79,334 tonnes with growth of about 22 per cent compared to April 2007 while total crude steel production reached 1,69,211 tonnes registering a growth of nearly 28 per cent over April last year, RSP sources said here today.

Total saleable steel output of 1,56,275 tonnes recorded a growth of more than 33 per cent compared to April 2007 and despatches of saleable steel stood at 1,40,485 tonnes thereby growing by about 18 per cent over April last year.

The performance and growth in saleable steel production was backed up by impressive performances in the production of total hot rolled coils, hot rolled coils (for sale) and crno steel from silicon steel mill which also registered the best-ever month performance since inception of the steel plant and growth as compared to April 2007 of nearly 23 per cent, 102 per cent and 20 per cent respectively.

The growth over April last year was also recorded in other finished products of RSP like hot rolled plates and and galvanised sheets, the sources said.

During April 2008, RSP continued to operate its major facilities much above the rated capacity achieving capacity utilisation of 110 per cent in the production of sinter, 109 per cent in hot metal, more than 108 per cent in crude steel and nearly 114 per cent of rated capacity in total saleable steel production, the sources said. - PTI
