Four cases booked for violation of poll code There will be wireless services in 90 p.c. of booths Madikeri: As many as five companies of police force from outside the State — one each of the Central Reserve Police Force and Border Security Force and three companies of Maharashtra State Reserve Police — have arrived in Kodagu to ensure free and fair elections on May 10, Superintendent of Police Sandeep Patil said here on Monday. Speaking to presspersons at his office here, he said that the 500-strong police force from outside the district would stage flag marches from Monday as part of an “area domination” exercise. It would enable them to get acquainted with the area and people, Mr. Patil said. There would be nearly 900 police officers and staff on duty at various places in the district. They would start patrolling from May 9, he said. As many as four cases have been booked for violation of the code of conduct. A case was booked against the Bahujan Samaj Party in Virajpet, the Congress in Somwarpet, the Janata Dal (S) in Siddapur and against an organisation, which is yet to be identified, in Kushalnagar. As regards depositing of weapons in police stations, Mr. Patils aid that 1,860 weapons had been received. The exercise would go on till May 8. Of the 250 non-bailable warrant (NBW) cases pending in Kodagu, 152 had been executed. As many as 44 cases had been registered for violation of excise rules, he said. Mr. Patil said that there would be wireless services in 90 per cent of the 454 polling booths in Kodagu. The rest were located close to police stations. Deputy Superintendents of Police of Virajpet and Somwarpet, were verifying the stocks being taken from outlets of the Karnataka State Breweries Corporation Limited daily. The police had tightened security in view of the visit of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi to Kushalnagar and Virajpet on Tuesday, Mr. Patil said.
