IGNOU develops new vocational programme

NEW DELHI: The latest guidelines issued by the Director-General of Shipping in Mumbai have clarified that it will now be mandatory for all the candidates to qualify in OPENNET entrance test examination to seek admission to the B.Sc. (Nautical Science) programme run by Indira Gandhi National Open University, irrespective of whether their candidature is sponsored by a shipping company or not.
This programme has been developed in collaboration with the Directorate-General of Shipping (DGS), Mumbai, and is aimed at providing vocationally oriented education and training to candidates to help them become officers in the Merchant Navy. The candidates will be selected on the basis of OPENNET. This test will be held on June 15. The course will be offered through select training institutes approved by DGS and IGNOU. To be eligible for it, applicants must have cleared Class XII with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with not less than 55 per cent marks aggregate in PCM from a recognised Board.
The prospectus can be obtained from the IGNOU headquarters in Delhi on weekdays during working hours on a payment of Rs.100. It can also be downloaded from www.ignou.ac.in
. The last date for submission of applications is May 27.
