Bangalore: The Janata Dal (S), known for its pro-farmer stance, has in its election manifesto promised farmers that all their loans to financial institutions will be waived in one year, if the party is voted to power. The JD (S) is the last of the three important political parties in the State to release the election manifesto. It has introduced several promises which do not find a place in the manifestos of the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress. The JD (S) manifesto has been prepared by two party MLCs — Abdul Azeem and H.C. Neeravari who served in the Police Department and the Karnataka Public Service Commission respectively. Releasing the manifesto here on Monday, the former Prime Minister and national president of the JD (S), H.D. Deve Gowda, said the party, which shared power with the Congress and the BJP, was not interested in a post-poll alliance, particularly with the BJP. The JD (S) launched a scathing attack on both the BJP and the Congress in the run-up to the elections. With reference to the Congress and BJP assuring free power to farmers and to BPL families, the former Prime Minister said: “we are already a power-starved State. How can they give free power. The JD(S) would like to give an assurance that it will ensure uninterrupted and quality power to irrigation pumpsets for at least 10 hours a day. We will also provide electricity to farmers and the poor people at a reasonable tariff.”
