Mother tongue of music

Music was born in Telugu and even those who did not know the language still managed to compose music in Telugu, states music maestro Nedunuri Krishna Murthy. He describes Telugu as the mother tongue of Carnatic music and calls for preserving the rich cultural heritage to which the Telugus are the true heirs. “Hyderabad is the political capital of our State and Vijayawada, its commercial capital. Our Vizag, the City of Destiny, is acknowledged by many as the cultural capital of Andhra Pradesh,” he points out and suggests organisation of cultural programmes in music, dance, arts, and literature on a large-scale and on regular basis to promote the city and its culture.

Simple but best

Whatever balladeers say goes straight to the heart as they put forth the naked truth in a straight way and in simple language. Vangapandu Prasada Rao, a revolutionary balladeer has composed and performed many songs and is a special attraction at any meeting.

The agitation against the coastal corridor is by the poor and unorganised people and hence dear to his heart and his presence at the public meeting here last week is not a surprise. Vangapandu and his troupe sang a few folk songs and during one song, he reminded the truth that every mother is a great philosopher. She may be illiterate but her experience and urge to be honest and concern for the children as well as society makes a mother to say what she feels, some times in the shape of a ballad.

This might be rustic but has a lot of meaning in it.

The balladeer wanted people to protect their language and regretted that the north coastal Andhra ascent is taking a back seat.(Prabhakkar Sharma and G. Narasimha Rao )
