Bid to outrage modesty of visually-impaired woman

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: An attempt to criminally assault a visually-impaired woman was allegedly made by a rickshaw-puller at Timarpur here on Monday. The victim sustained injuries on her face while trying to save herself.

The incident took place in the afternoon when the woman, who lives in a hostel at Dwarka, was on her way to meet a friend. She alighted from a metro train at the Vishwavidyalaya station on Mall Road and hired a rickshaw. She made the rickshaw-puller talk to her friend over the mobile phone to understand the direction to his place.

But instead of taking the woman to her destination, the rickshaw-puller took her somewhere else and tried to force himself upon her. However, the woman put up a stiff resistance and screamed for help. Hearing her cries, some passers-by rushed to her help and beat up the rickshaw-puller.
