BANTWAL: The State Committee secretary of the Communist Party of India, Siddanagowda Patil, has said that the upcoming Assembly elections are the most crucial for the State. Mr. Patil, who visited Bantwal on Sunday to campaign for CPI candidate Satish Kumar Bantwal, said that every political combination in the State’s recent history had failed. “The voters now have a great opportunity to change this precedent. It is the most important election of their lives and in the life of this State,” he said. The national deputy secretary of the party and MP, S. Sudhakar Reddy, who is campaigning for the CPI candidates in the region, stopped over to campaign for Mr. Bantwal. Mr. Reddy said that the party was keen on representing the grievances of the entire State. “If our candidates win, they will not restrict themselves to the issues of their constituency,” he said and added that the primary issue facing the State was the change in land use patterns. “Agricultural land is being given away for Special Economic Zones, but there is no political will to redistribute land,” he said. He expressed hope that the people of the State would defeat communal forces. Speaking to presspersons, Mr. Patil said that there was no real clash of ideologies in Karnataka. “None of the parties have any ideology. They only want support along the lines of community and caste,” he said. He expressed concern over the fact that election manifestos were no longer taken seriously by voters.
