Two injured in mysterious blast
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: Two persons, including a woman, were injured in a mysterious blast at a catering service outlet in Chittaranjan Park here in the early hours of Monday.
According to the police, it was around 2-15 a.m. when the explosion rocked the area, badly damaging the outlet and smashing the windscreens of several vehicles parked on the roadside.
The wall of an adjoining house was also damaged injuring one of its occupants, 45-year-old Sudarshana Maitra. A 48-year-old security guard, Sohan Pal, also sustained injuries in the explosion.
All the injured were taken to hospital from where Sohan Pal was discharged after treatment. Sudarshana, who is out of danger, has been admitted to Singhania Nursing Home.
Forensic experts
The police sought help from forensic experts to unravel the mystery behind the blast, as the cylinders kept in the outlet were found intact.
The experts said gas had probably leaked from one of the cylinders and did not find any exit from the room leading to a blast that was probably triggered by an electric spark.
