NEW DELHI: Residents of the Capital got a welcome relief from the scorching May heat on Monday as the mercury dipped to a cool 27 degrees Celsius following sudden showers in the evening. While the city had reeled under a high of 43 degrees Celsius on Sunday, the rain and cloudy skies on Monday made the weather much more pleasant as the temperature dropped to a maximum of 36.8 degrees Celsius. According to the weatherman, the rain was due to a cyclonic circulation in neighbouring Haryana: “The cloudy cover on Monday and thundershowers witnessed on Sunday evening at some locations in Delhi have brought about a change in the weather conditions in Delhi. The maximum temperature was 36.8 degrees Celsius on Monday.” For the past two weeks Delhiites have been sweating it out in the blistering heat with the temperature hovering around 40 degrees Celsius. People have been gulping down litres of water and sporting caps to avoid the heat wave. “This type of weather would continue for another one to two days in Delhi. It would be a partly cloudy sky on Tuesday with possibility of rain and thundershowers accompanied by squalls in the city. The maximum temperature is expected to be 39 degrees Celsius,” said the weatherman. Meanwhile, flight movement at Indira Gandhi International Airport was also impacted by the change in the weather conditions on Monday evening.
