In January, a girl was knocked down by a lorry Another girl died after being hit by a lorry in February TAMBARAM: A five-year-old girl died after she was knocked down by a mini-lorry at Bhaktavatsalam Nagar, Nanganallur, on Monday. Angered by the accident, the residents thrashed the driver of the vehicle. The Pazhavanthangal police said Rajeswari was playing outside her house on Bhaktavatsalam Nagar when she was hit by the vehicle carrying a consignment of confectionary. Shocked residents and relatives rushed the girl to a hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival. Soon after the accident, relatives pulled out the driver Veeran and thrashed him before handing him over to the Pazhavanthangal police. In January, a 12-year-old girl was knocked down by a lorry carrying a consignment of LPG cylinders in Adambakkam. Residents assaulted the driver and also damaged the vehicle. And in February, a 4-year-old girl died after she was hit by a lorry that was backing up in Irumbuliyur near Tambaram. The driver, who tried to flee, was nabbed and handed over to police. Another accidentIn another accident on Monday, a 25-year-old woman died on the spot when a lorry knocked down the moped which she was riding along with her husband on the Chennai Bypass Road. A resident of Thaiyur near Kelambakkam, Beulah had gone to her parents’ house in Avadi along with her two children for the weekend. On Monday, her husband Ravi came to pick them up. While they sent their two children by bus to Tambaram, they travelled by a moped. Near Anakaputhur, a speeding lorry hit the moped throwing both of them on the road. Beulah sustained head injuries and died, police said. On Sunday evening, a 75-year-old pedestrian was killed on the spot in a hit-and-run case on the Velachery Main Road at Rajakilpakkam. Chinnaiah was crossing the road to reach his house in Ambedkar Nagar, when the speeding vehicle hit him, police said.
