Bangalore: Embarrassed by the filing of nomination papers by ticket aspirants and its possible impact on the chances of its official candidates, the Congress has started damage-control measures. All India Congreess Committee General Secretary Digvijay Singh is speaking to candidates and senior leaders in his bid to make the rebels to withdraw from the fray, at least in constituencies that would go to the polls in the third phase. May 7 is the last date for withdrawal of nominations in 69 constituencies in Belgaum, Bagalkot, Bijapur, Gulbarga, Bidar, Gadag, Dharwad and Haveri districts. Some of the candidates who could not get the party ticket have either filed nomination papers or put up dummy candidates to embarrass the party. He also reportedly promised them that they would be made MLCs and accommodated as chairpersons of boards and corporations, if the party came to power.
