MADURAI: Mayor G. Thenmozhi and Corporation Commissioner D.J. Dhinakaren inspected Purathchi Thalaiavar Colony in ward 9 of North Zone and ordered the officials to clean an open sewage on Tuesday. According to a press release, the Mayor urged the officials to convert asbestos-roofed houses into concrete structures under the Basic Services to Urban Poor (BSUP) scheme and provide free drinking water connections and underground drainage facilities. In a meeting held later, the Mayor received 30 petitions on provision of basic amenities such as streetlights, road and drinking water. The Mayor ordered officials to redress the grievances. Zonal chairman K. Isakkimuthu and councillor A. Neelamegam, among others, participated.
