WARNING SHOT: E.K. Ummer, director of the Indian Medical Association, inaugurating a protest dharna by the Kerala Government Medical Officers Association in front of the Collectorate in Malappuram on Tuesday. MALAPPURAM: The Kerala Government Medical Officers Association (KGMOA) staged a dharna in front of the Collectorate here on Tuesday pressing its long-pending demands. E.K. Ummer, director of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), inaugurated the dharna. D. Narayanan, former deputy district medical officer, presided over the dharna. U. Babu, KGMOA district secretary, said that the government had failed to keep its word on the pay rise assured to the doctors in the State. The pay hike of the government doctors has been pending for over two years, he said. The KGMOA had also protested against the government move to withhold the doctors’ salary in April. The government doctors had warned that the government move would drive them into launching a full-blown agitation. KGMOA executive committee members A.M. Usman Kutty, N.P. Satyanarayanan and C. Mohammed; KGMOA treasurer Shaju Mathews, north zone vice-president D. Patmanabhan, and Dr. Babu were among those who addressed the dharna.
