Charge against Medical Services Corporation

Staff Reporter

KASARAGOD: The recently formed Medical Services Corporation has discarded public sector drug manufacturing companies when it fixed the list of companies from which medicines are to be purchased for supply in government hospitals, the Kerala Government Pharmacists Association has said.

At a press conference here, association general secretary E.V. Rajendran said when the tenders for the purchase of medicines were finalised not a single public sector company featured on the list. The Kerala State Drugs and Pharmaceuticals, which used to supply several medicines to the Health Department earlier, was also discarded.

It was at a time when the State government had spent more than Rs.10 crore for the revival of the KSDP, Mr. Rajendran said.

He noted that preference had been accorded to public sector companies while making drug purchases earlier. The association would hold a vehicle rally from Kasaragod to Thiruvananthapuram, he said.
