Stray dogs kill 6-year-old

Staff Correspondent

DEHRA DUN: Stray dogs killed a six-year-old boy and left an infant girl critically injured in Bhandari Bagh area in the heart of Doon city over the weekend.

The boy, Shahzad, was attacked by a pack of about 15 dogs while he was playing near his house. He was mauled to death before neighbours could rush to his rescue.

The girl was attacked as she slept in her room. A portion of her face was eaten away by a dog before her mother rushed to her rescue. These dogs are said to be used to eating animal waste from the local slaughter house.

Concerned over the growing dogs menace, a number of local residents have urged the District Magistrate to immediately order killing of stray dogs in areas like Bhandari Bagh, THDC Colony, Neshville Road, East Canal Road and Nehru Colony. “Action should also be taken against the municipal officials responsible for keeping the stray dogs population under control,” they said.

The Doon Hospital alone treats about 20 persons for dog-bite every day.
