Officials told to finish work in time

KARAIKAL: The Lt. Governor of Puducherry, Lt Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh, on Tuesday instructed the district officials here to complete all development works within the stipulated time so as to take the benefits to the people.

Mr. Bhopinder Singh, now Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and holding additional charge as Lt. Governor of Puducherry from March 15, paid his maiden visit to Karaikal district on Tuesday and held a meeting with Collector N. Vasanthakumar, Karaikal municipal chairperson R. Prabhavathi, Senior Superintendent of Police Sindhu Pillai and representatives of people’s voluntary organisations and discussed about various ongoing development works in the district.

He wanted the official to complete the development projects, including the Tirunallar temple development project, Karaikal port and fishing harbour within the stipulated time and pointed out that the Government would extend all assistance.

Dr. Vasanthakumar, through a power point presentation, explained the Lt.Governor the ongoing development works and also the proposed industrial development activities in the district.

The Lt. Governor accompanied by the Collector and other officials inspected the construction of the fishing harbour in Karaikal.

Earlier, the Lt.Governor, visited the famous Lord Dharbaranyeswaraswamy temple at Tirunallar and worshipped the presiding deity of Lord Siva and offered prayers at the Lord Saneeswara Bhagawan shrine. He was received with traditional temple honours at the temple.
