Panchayat employees’ State meet tomorrow

Staff Reporter

Kozhikode: CITU State general secretary M.M. Lawrence will inaugurate the 40th State conference of the Kerala Panchayat Employees’ Association (KPEA) here on May 8.

Talking to reporters here on Tuesday, Kozhikode Mayor M. Bhaskaran and KPEA president V.V. Thankamani said Minister for Local Self-government Paloli Mohammed Kutty would inaugurate a public meeting on May 8 after a procession to be taken out by KPEA members from five districts. Forest Minister Benoy Viswom will inaugurate a seminar on ‘Fiscal policies — Centre and State Relations,’ on May 9.

They said the redeployment of employees to Panchayat Department was not done as per the recommendations of the Sen Committee. The day-to-day work in the grama panchayats were increasing as a result of rapid urbanisation in villages and enormity of local development. But, the staff pattern remained the same as that of 1987.
