No nominations for 16 Assembly, 3 LS seats
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD: No nomination was filed in as many as 16 out of 18 Assembly constituencies notified for byelections, even on the second day of filing the nominations on Tuesday.
Likewise, three out of the four parliamentary constituencies remained without a nomination. Lack of response has been attributed to the candidates’ belief that the day was not auspicious. As May 8 is seen as auspicious, a large number of nominations are likely on that day.
Only three nominations were filed on Tuesday, all in Assembly constituencies, two in Therlam and one in Secunderabad. Clubbed with first day’s four nominations (one in Adilabad Lok Sabha constituency, and two for Secunderabad Assembly seat, and one for Kamalapur), the total tally reached 7 now in the 10 districts.
Meanwhile, Chief Electoral Officer I. V. Subba Rao told reporters that he had sought 150 companies of Central forces for deployment in the 10 districts to ensure free and fair byelections. He said Andhra Pradesh, in turn, provided 10 companies to Karnataka as ordered by the commission .
