Udiyannoor temple fete begins

Thiruvananthapuram: The annual Medappunartha festival began at Sri Udiyannoor Devi Temple here on Tuesday. President of the temple trust V.K. Kesavan Nair and secretary Vattiyoorkavu Ravi told mediapersons here that one lakh devotees were expected to offer Pongala to the deity on May 10. They said the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation had agreed to operate special bus services to various parts of the city and suburban areas to clear the rush of devotees.

The government has issued a notification declaring the Vattiyoorkavu, Kanjirampara, PTP Nagar, Thirumala, Poojappura, Vazhuthacaud, Sasthamangalam, Kowdiar, Mannamoola and Kuravankonam wards and the areas under the Vattiyoorkavu grama panchayat a festival zone.

The festival will end on May 15 with an ‘arat’ and a fireworks display.
