Panel alleged to have touched on political field Koneru told to step down for ‘fooling’ Madigas HYDERABAD: Mala Mahanadu president J. Prabhakara Rao on Tuesday said that the Usha Mehra Commission report on sub-categorisation of SCs would not stand legal scrutiny and alleged that it was aimed at weakening the Dalit movement. Addressing a press conference after a meeting of the State committee, he alleged that the report was a “bundle of inaccuracies.” It was similar to the Ramachandra Raju Commission appointed by the Telugu Desam Party regime and a ‘reproduction of the pamphlet brought out by MRPS leader Manda Krishna’. He said that although SC categorisation was demanded in education and employment, the Usha Mehra Commission had exceeded its terms of reference and touched on the political field. Referring to Municipal Administration Minister Koneru Ranga Rao’s offer on April 29 to resign if SC categorisation was not implemented in a week, he wanted him to step down immediately and quit politics for ‘deceiving’ the Madiga community. He urged Mr. Manda Krishna to resume his fast till the amendment Bill was introduced in Parliament and render justice to the Madigas. He appealed to the MRPS leaders to join a united fight for securing reservations in the private sector. Meanwhile, Karem Sivaji, the breakaway Mala Mahanadu leader, was shifted to NIMS along with three activists on Monday evening, forcibly ending his four-day fast. He urged the Government to refer any problem pertaining to the Mala and Madiga communities to the National Commission for SCs and STs. ‘False’ figuresHe accused the Government of furnishing ‘false’ figures to the Usha Mehra Commission and claimed that information relating to the State and Central-level recruitments was not given. Pointing out that SCs were utilising only 7.5 per cent of the reservations, he said “false propaganda” was being resorted to by the MRPS and some political parties that jobs were predominantly cornered by the Mala community.
