CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Tuesday promised “massive development” to the electorate of Adampur, which interestingly is the home fief of former Chief Minister and Haryana Janhit Congress candidate for the upcoming State Assembly by-election from the constituency, Bhajan Lal. Addressing a series of election meetings in the constituency which goes to the polls on May 22, the Chief Minister appealed to the voters to exercise their franchise in favour of the Congress candidate Ranjit Singh, the younger son of the late ‘Tau’ Devi Lal. Mr. Hooda asserted that unprecedented development would be triggered off in the constituency during the next two years which would beat all previous records. The Chief Minister further said that the electorate had always voted for the Congress nominee in the past and he expressed confidence that this time too history would be repeated with the Congress nominee winning by a “record margin”. Launching a direct attack on his bête noir Bhajan Lal, he regretted that although Mr. Lal had served as Chief Minister for long stints, the Adampur constituency had “remained backward”. The by-election in Adampur was necessitated after Mr. Bhajan Lal, the sitting Congress MLA, was disqualified by the Vidhan Sabha Speaker for joining the newly-floated Haryana Janhit Congress.
