Liquor seized

MYSORE: Excise officials raided an abandoned house in Belavatta village on the outskirts of Mysore city on Tuesday and seized illegal liquor and its manufacturing unit worth Rs. 2.5 lakh.
Acting on a tip-off, the officials broke open the lock of the house situated next to an Ayurveda hospital on the Ring Road and seized 72 cases of illicit liquor, 140 litres of spirit, 105 litres of blend, besides 140 fake labels and 4 kg of cork.
Tuesday’s seizure is the largest in Mysore during the run-up to the Assembly elections scheduled for May 10.
Banned
In view of polling on May 10, the district administration has banned sale of liquor from midnight of May 7 till midnight of May 10.
According to orders issued by Deputy Commissioner P. Manivannan, who is also the District Election Officer, all liquor retail shops, bars and restaurants, clubs, guesthouses, pubs and distilleries will remain closed for three days before polling.
