THANJAVUR: “What counts most in life is what we do to others,” said L.N.Letchumanan, past district Governor of Lions International district 324-A2, here on Monday. Delivering the keynote address at the installation of KR.Annamalai, industrialist as president of the Chamber of Industries and Commerce, Thanjavur, Mr. Letchumanan called for willingness to serve others to become successful in life. He said that the following commandments had to be followed to be successful in life. “One should speak to people. There is nothing as nice and cheerful as greeting people. Smile is a weapon to win over others. Be gracious while praising and cautious in criticism. Praise should be given in public while criticism should be done in private. Mr. KR.Annamalai appealed to traders to become members of the chamber and strengthen it. He said he would make all efforts to complete a building for the chamber. Former president G. Naga Pillai called for improving tourism in the heritage town of Thanjavur. Big temple, palace, Saraswathi Mahal Library, Tamil University, South Zone Cultural Centre were the main tourist attractions, he said. Thanjavur had become an educational belt with various universities around the Medical College. He appealed to the Central Government to expedite conversion of Thanjavur Air Force station into a fullfledged one. Thanjavur had all the potential to become a greater city, he said. Chamber secretary K.Padmanabhan explained the petitions submitted by the chamber to Central and state governments and Thanjavur Municipality on various issues. He said that the chamber had been asked by the Southern Railway to give its opinion on market potential of laying a railway line between Thanjavur and Ariyalur. V.Murugan, Managing director, Trichy Trading Company Pvt Ltd, delivered a special address. PLA.Chidambaram, vice-president of the chamber, participated.
