Staff Correspondent

Eco-tourism activities to be introduced in forest rest houses in Bhopal forest circle

M.P. to be projected as a Tiger State through a short film; video to be given to tourists for free

BHOPAL: The Madhya Pradesh Eco-tourism Development Board has approved a proposal to develop forest rest houses and build up infrastructure to promote eco-tourism in the State.

At its third general body meeting held over the weekend, it was decided to develop the Daulatpur forest rest house under the Dewas forest circle as an ethnic eco-tourism site.

The Board has selected ten forest rest houses for improvement and eco-tourism activities are to be introduced on priority in the forest area near the Samardha forest rest house falling under the Bhopal forest circle.

The State Eco-tourism Board would take up the work of eco-tourism infrastructure development with the cooperation of the State Rural Development and other departments. There is also a plan to produce a short film and launch a massive publicity campaign to promote eco-tourism in the State. The plan is to project Madhya Pradesh as a Tiger State through the short film and its VCD would be provided free of cost to tourists visiting the eco-tourism destinations in the State. FM radio channels would also be utilised for publicity purposes and special workshops would be organised for radio jockeys to build up public awareness about various environment and conservation-related issues.

It was also decided at the meeting that the Ghughuya Fossil Park situated in Dindori district be connected to the Kanha-Bandhavgarh eco-tourism circuit and the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation should conduct a survey to explore the possibility of introducing houseboats and hovercrafts in the Tawa reservoir in Hoshangabad district.
