Annual feast begins

Thanjavur: The annual feast 2008 of Poondi Madha Basilica at Poondi near Thirukattupalli in Thanjavur district began on Tuesday with flag hoisting.

Rev. Fr. Santiagu, Parish Priest, Michaelpatti hoisted the flag and inaugurated the festival at the Basilica.

The solemn car procession will take place on May 14 (Wednesday).

Pontifical high mass will be held on May 15 at 6 p.m. Rev.Dr.C.Peter Francis, Administrator, Diocese of Kumbakonam will conduct the holy mass.

Flanked by two rivers Coleroon and Cauvery, the basilica was built by Veeramamunivar. The statue of Mother Mary is in the basilica from 1858.
