Heat wave in Nagapattinam

NAGAPATTINAM: People in various parts of the district continued to suffer from sweltering heat since May 3, the day on which the fortnight-long `Agni Nakshatram’ commenced.

The day temperature touched 106 deg F in many parts of the district including Nagapattinam, Mayiladuturai, Vedaranyam and Sirkazhi on Tuesday.

Arunkumar (22) of Kathiripulam near Vedaranyam in the district allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison on Monday. Police sources said that family quarrel is said to be the reason for the tragedy.
