THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State government is taking steps to entrust the Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC) with the recruitment of administrative staff in the Guruvayur Devaswom, Devaswom Minister G. Sudhakaran said here on Tuesday. In a press note, Mr. Sudhakaran said that provisions for introducing such recruitment in the proposed Malabar Devaswom Board had been made in the Malabar Devaswom ordinance. He described as baseless news reports that the Governor had returned the Bill proposing handover of the appointment of administrative staff in the Travancore and Cochin Devaswom Boards to the PSC. The High Court and the Supreme Court had okayed the amendments to the Travancore Cochin Hindu Religious Institutions Act. Once the legislation framed by the government came into force, the Boards would have to consult the commission for recruiting administrative staff. In the event of any differences of opinion between the Board and the commission, the former would have to refer it to the government, which would take the final decision. The government would soon finalise the subjects on which the Board and the commission should hold mutual consultations. The Nair Service Society had submitted a petition to the Governor against the Bill. The Governor had asked the Chief Minister to examine the complaint and give his opinion, but the Bill had not been returned. He denied reports that the President had returned the amendment to increase the number of Board members to nine.
