Preethi and Bharathi in joint lead

Salem: Commonwealth medallist R. Preethi of Madurai and State sub-junior champion R. Bharathi of Chennai were in joint lead, with 5.5 points each, at the end of the sixth round in the 36th Tamil Nadu State women’s chess championship here on Tuesday.

Pon. N. Krithika (Kancheepuram) and S. Nabeela Farheen (Chennai) trail the leaders by half a point.

YMCA posts win

YMCA Basketball Club (Coimbatore) edged out Uppilipalayam BBC 49-46 in the State-level basketball tournament for men at Coimbatore on Tuesday.

Earlier, United BC (Coimbatore) got past United BC (Chennai) 71-57.

A brace by Prakash and one goal each by Sathish Kumar and Edwin helped Rock Fort Football Club defeat PSNA Football Club 4-1 in the Dindigul DFA Nursery (under-13) league for DPM Trophy at Dindigul on Tuesday.

Ilango scored the only goal for PSNA Club.

In another match, Royal Football Club (Batlagundu) beat Arasan Football Club by a solitary goal scored by Jeyakumar.
