Nirmala upsets Teenu

KOCHI: Nirmala Vaishalini, a fifth standard student of the Vidyodaya School, Thevakkal, upset favourite Teenu Thomas and won the Ernakulam District women’s chess championship at the Cochin University here on Tuesday.

Nirmala finished with 4.5 points from five rounds. Teenu Thomas (4 points) finished runner-up with Athira Shajan (3.5) and Alka Raj (3) took the next two positions.
