BERHAMPUR: A detailed report of human resource development in Ganjam district would be prepared under a pilot project of the State Planning and Coordination Department and the UNDP. This pilot project would be later taken up in Kalahandi, Mayurbhanj and Kandhamal districts. A private organisation has been entrusted the work of survey and preparation of report in Ganjam district. On Monday officials of Ganjam district administration and representatives of the private organisation got together at a workshop held in Chatrapur to chalk out the plans for the preparation of the report. Ganjam district Collector, V.K.Pandian also attended this workshop. Local issuesAccording to Mr. Pandian this report would enable proper study of local issues which prove to be a major practical hindrance during the implementation of developmental programmes in different areas. He also elaborated how the women Self Help Groups (SHG) have proved to be major sources of rural development in Ganjam district because they planned up projects which were conducive to their local needs and environment. Till now around 21,000 women SHGs are active in the district providing source of income to over 2,10,000 rural women. He accepted that around five lakh persons of the district still work as migrant labourers outside the State.
