DAVANGERE: Karunakar Reddy, Bellary MP, who is contesting as a BJP candidate from Harpanahalli constituency in Davangere district, on Tuesday alleged that M.P. Prakash, former Chief Minister and Congress candidate for Harpanahalli, and his son M.P. Ravindra were distributing money, liquor and saris to the people to garner their votes. Speaking to The Hindu he refuted Mr. Prakash’s allegation that he (Mr. Reddy) was using money and muscle power to win the election. Mr. Reddy said let Mr. Prakash prove his allegation against him. Mr. Prakash was upset by the growing popularity of the BJP in Harapanahalli. Hence, he was making such allegations. “I have toured most of the villages in Harpanahalli as an MP in the past four years and I have the confidence to face people and seek their support as I have worked for their welfare,” Mr. Reddy said. There was no need for him to distribute money, wine and saris to the people of Harpanahalli. They were supporting him in recognition of his contribution for their welfare, he said. He said that he was not interested in contesting the Assembly election as he had one more year of his term as an MP. But the party wanted him to contest against Mr. Prakash in Harpanahalli. Expressing confidence that he would win the Harpanahalli seat, Mr. Reddy said that he would be in State politics after the election.
