Congress in TV scam: JD(S)

Special Correspondent

‘Five trucks carrying TV sets found’

Chakrapani says he received a call from Anjine Gowda

Complaint has been filed by Mr. Gowda with the police

BANGALORE: The Janata Dal (Secular) working president C. Narayanaswamy claims to have unearthed a large consignment of television sets stored on the premises of a storage facility belonging to Congress leader K.N. Chakrapani.

At a press conference, Mr. Narayanaswamy said that on Tuesday, five trucks carrying a particular brand of television sets were parked near the private storage facility. Two other trucks had already off-loaded their wares, presumably television sets, on the same premises, he said.

He said he had received a call from one K.N. Anjine Gowda at 5 p.m. on May 5, 2008 about the trucks.

So he went to the site and found the television sets being off-loaded from the truck and taken into the storage facility. Mr. Narayanaswamy also showed to presspersons a video footage of the incident and said there were some 3,500 television sets in the trucks.

He said Mr. Chakrapani arrived on the scene with his henchmen and shooed away the onlookers and the presspersons.

The trucks were removed from the premises and taken to some other destination, he alleged.

Mr. Gowda has filed a complaint with the Sub-Inspector of Vidyaranayapura in Byatarayanapura constituency limits stating that the large number of television sets could be used for distribution among the voters. He asked the Election Commission to take note of the incident. State President of the Janata Dal (S) Merajuddin Patel was also present at the press conference.
