Timarpur case solved; rickshaw-puller held
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: A rickshaw-puller who allegedly tried to criminally assault a visually-impaired woman before robbing her of a mobile phone at Timarpur here on Monday has been arrested. The police have also arrested his accomplice after the stolen mobile phone was found in his possession.
According to the police, Shyam Sunder was arrested on Tuesday afternoon. During interrogation, he purportedly confessed to having committed the crime.
The incident had taken place on Monday afternoon when the woman was going to meet a friend. She hired a rickshaw near Vishwavidyalaya metro station, but the driver took her to a desolate place and allegedly tried to criminally assault her. Hearing her screams, some passers-by rushed to her help and beat up the rickshaw-puller. They then asked him to drop her at her destination. But the accused robbed her of her mobile phone and dumped her on the way.
Shyam later told the police that the mobile phone had been taken away by his acquaintance Chaudhry Jagan. Subsequently Jagan too was arrested.
