The programme is for police officers working in the Crime Against Women Cell NEW DELHI: To help them better understand issues like violence against women, alcoholism and its effects on marital life, Jamia Millia Islamia is starting a training programme for police officers working in the Crime Against Women Cell. The weeklong programme beginning on Wednesday will be handled by the Department of Social Work at Jamia. It will involve assistant commissioners of police, inspectors, sub-inspectors and representatives of four non-government organisations. In the first batch, training would be conducted for a group of 30 participants. Various participatory training tools would be used during the training workshop. Some of them would include role plays, structured games/ exercises, group activities and case studies. “Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Against Women Cell) Sudhir Yadav approached the Department for conducting a training programme for its staff directly engaged with the clients, either in the Cell or as part of its helpline services. Different issues will be addressed during the workshop, like understanding violence against women, counselling, alcoholism, sexuality and its manifestations, protection of women from domestic abuse and mental illness,” said a Jamia spokesperson. “In response to the request put forth by Mr. Yadav, the Department considered it imperative to understand the various aspects of the service before designing a training programme. Two faculty members made attempts to understand the present service delivery systemto identify the bottlenecks,” she added.
