IN A JAM: The traffic on city roads was partly affected following a rally taken out by Congress workers in the city on Tuesday.

KOCHI: Citizens had a harrowing time in the city on Tuesday evening as vehicles carrying hundreds of Congress workers blocked the arterial roads.

Though it was announced that the rally would begin at 3.30 p.m., it started a few hours late, affecting the regular vehicular movement in the evening peak hours in the city.

Long queues

Long queues of vehicles carrying slogan-shouting party workers could be seen along the roads that led to Marine Drive, the venue of the conference.

Several private vehicles including cars were caught in between the vehicles that brought the rallyists to the city. A large number of vehicles also found it difficult to move to the intersections from the main roads as vehicles were inching their way along the main roads.

The Edapally-High Court road segment was chocked for nearly two hours from 3 p.m. with vehicles that brought the party workers.

Most of the bus stops along the High Court-Palarivattom segment were nearly-deserted around 4 p.m. as a large number of commuters either skipped the journey or made alternative arrangements to reach their destinations.

However, the traffic flow along the Edapally-Vyttila National Highway remained more or less unaffected.
