They have been living in Gandhi Nagar, coming under Ward No. 38 for several years
TAMBARAM: A section of conversancy workers of Tambaram Municipality, along with their families, have appealed to the local body to improve sanitation facilities in their locality in Gandhi Nagar.
On Tuesday, men, women and children gathered at the local body office and submitted petitions to municipal chairman E. Mani and commissioner L.S. Girija. They said that they have been living in Gandhi Nagar, coming under Ward No. 38 for several years.
Following their appeals for a sanitary complex, seven cents of land were identified in 2005 for building the same. However, there was no progress. And of late, attempts were made by certain individuals to grab this piece of land earmarked for the sanitary complex.
They squatted inside the office premises for sometime before dispersing.
They said that the absence of sanitary facilities was causing severe problems and embarrassment for the residents, particularly women. Municipal authorities made an inspection of the spot in the evening and said that they would take a final decision in a few days.
