Vaniyambadi college, IGNOU join hands for new scheme
Special Correspondent
VELLORE: Islamiah College, Vaniyambadi, has entered into a partnership with Indira Gandhi National Open University (INGOU) to offer a ‘Convergence Scheme for Empowerment,’ under which employed/unemployed persons could obtain degrees, while the regular students could obtain additional degrees through a convergence of the conventional and distance education systems.
According to a release from Syed Sahabudeen, Principal, Islamiah College, Vaniyambadi, the Convergence Scheme for Empowerment is a novel scheme, conceived by the University Grants Commission, IGNOU, Distance Education Council and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), under the guidance of the Ministry of Human Resources Development. It would facilitate capacity building and strengthen the conventional systems of higher education. Islamiah College is one of the 100 colleges in India in which the scheme has been introduced, he said.
The college, in partnership with IGNOU, provides seamless access to education at all levels, ranging from awareness programmes to doctoral degrees. To meet the projected Eleventh Plan access rates for tertiary education, the IGNOU has launched a synergy of Open Distance Learning (ODL) and conventional systems. This is being done to achieve the projected targets related to access and equity in higher education.
