‘Worship agitation’

Special Correspondent

VELLORE: The Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam (TMMK) has decided to go ahead with the ‘worship agitation’ at the mosque inside the fort here on May 9. They had decided to proceed as the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and the district higher authorities had “gone back on their assurance of throwing open the mosque for worship from 10 a.m. on May 5,” J. Avuliya, State secretary (labour wing) of the TMMK, told reporters here on Tuesday.

Collector Dharmendra Prathap Yadhav, who convened a meeting of police and ASI officials on Tuesday, told The Hindu that the district administration would treat it as a law and order problem if the TMMK decided to defy the ban to enter the mosque.
