Accused in Orissa police custody

PANAJI: A team of Orissa police on Tuesday took into custody Raja alias Sandip Acharya, prime accused in the murder of Biranchi Das, coach of child marathon runner Budhia. Acharya surrendered before the Goa police on Monday.
Inspector General of Police Kishan Kumar told The Hindu that a four-member Orissa police team, led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Suresh Mahapatra, arrived here on Tuesday morning and took into custody Acharya after completing the court formalities.
Earlier in the day, Acharya was produced before the Judicial Magistrate’s Court here by the Goa police and transit remand was obtained. Acharya was later flown to Bhubaneswar by the Orissa police, sources in the Goa police said.
